Agency Name Changed from Department of Elder Affairs to Department on Aging (or DOA)

Some lawmakers snickered, others groaned that the new agency might share the same initials as the phrase "dead on arrival."

"I am offended by the use of the acronym for the department," said Rep. Dave Heaton, a 68-year-old Republican from Mount Pleasant. "You can't have an acronym like this when you're referring to elderly people. I don't like it."
